Our target groups
This is our target group
Sufficient language and reading skills are key prerequisites for successful integration into society, which in turn forms the basis for a responsible and self-determined life. This is countered by the fact that an increasing number of pupils in Germany are unable to read and write properly – for example, 25% of fourth-graders1 and 30% of fourth-graders2 currently do not meet the minimum requirements of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder. Inadequate learning performance is most evident among socially disadvantaged children with a migration background3, as educational success in Germany is directly linked to the social situation of the family4. Social inequality is also noticeable in the area of physical activity and sport. The large number of socially disadvantaged children who do not get enough exercise (73%) rose again to 78% in 20225. We want to counteract these developments by creating low-threshold and motivating educational opportunities to reach children who are not sufficiently supported in their normal school day. In particular, we are targeting socially disadvantaged children from disadvantaged districts in years 3 to 6.

Voices of our participants
Eliana, 10, program participant
"I didn't like reading before, but with FtK I discovered it for myself. Now I just love it."
Malik, 10, program participant
"What I like best is that we play lots of games, but we also learn German better in the process."
Yasin, 9, program participant
"We learn a lot of things here like passing, tricks, scoring goals.
But we also learn how to write, read and everything else.
I've learned how to spell lots of different words correctly."
Davit (9) and Maximilian (9), participants in "EUROKiK"
"That was a really great day!
The coolest thing was that we got to play in a real stadium.
Above all, the fact that we were allowed to run out onto the pitch in front of so many people while they cheered us on was a great feeling.
We felt like we were real soccer stars."
Nesrin, 9, participant in the "Löwenstark - Fußball trifft Kultur" program
"I also enjoy reading, so we can learn a lot of new things."
Aman, 10, program participant
"It's particularly nice that we work together as a team and also find out a lot about soccer in class."
